METAMORPHOSIS
PUBLICATION DESIGN.

Metamorphosis is a 116-page publication that explores the visionary creative process of Andrew Bolton, head curator of The Met’s Costume Institute, as he conceptualizes and brings to life the Institute’s annual fashion exhibition. Spanning five exhibitions from 2016 to 2020—Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, Camp: Notes on Fashion, and About Time: Fashion and Duration—the publication offers a behind-the-scenes look at how each show came to be.

Each chapter unpacks the curatorial journey, from selecting the exhibition’s central theme to sourcing the garments and designing the spatial experience. The publication is thoughtfully structured and visually tailored to echo the aesthetic of each exhibition, creating a dynamic reading experience that reflects the innovation and artistry at the heart of Bolton’s work.
