VISUAL IMPACT

PRINT DESIGN. PHOTOGRAPHY.

It is no secret that graphic design has the ability to instill, inspire and influence the world around us. Yet, there is no way for a designer to control the way a message is received. Designers can, however, anticipate the response and influence the message with thoughtful form and function of content. From social issues to signage and everything in between, Visual Impact addresses the powerful ways in which practicing designers can create meaning to influence the world around us. The interior of these pages are completed with writings on visual communication and backed by successful works and practices of the world’s leading designers. It’s hard to know what people think, but having a better understanding of graphic design as a  dialogue can lead to stronger visual impact.

Visual Impact is a student project. The assignment centered around an open-ended book jacket prompt that challenged students to use photography and material exploration as a starting point for concept development. This project became an opportunity to not only engage with the physicality of design—through texture, imagery, and form—but to reflect on the responsibility designers carry in shaping visual culture. The result is a concept-driven piece that bridges visual and material experimentation with critical design thinking.
